BIG EYE

Rumors of mysterious creatures lurking in the depths of Lake Ontario began long before the first European explorers passed through the region. Local fishermen tell of creatures that nudge their boats in the middle of the night and of glowing eyes that circle them menacingly.

This immature female Bigeye was taken in the Bay of Quinte just off Belleville, ON. The species appears to be extremely aggressive.

The mate of this one attempted to chew through the hull of the fishing boat in a vain rescue attempt. The fishermen were able to make it safely ashore only with the help of the local Coast Guard.
